Nancy Chien-Eriksen first created this work as a Scratchboard. First she covers a white clay board with black India ink; then with a pointed razorblade she proceeds to meticulously scratch away the black revealing the white beneath as strikingly intricate contrasting lines. She later colors in the lines with watercolor or an airbrush tool giving the work that luminescent look. In addition to her inborn native talent, Nancy?s extensive knowledge of human and animal anatomy and her training in classical art technique combine effectively to create the stunning magic of this scene.
The final Giclee was printed in Nancy's own studio with the rich texture of time tested archival inks that will last for generations on either archival 100% cotton rag or archival water resistant canvas.
Nancy, and her husband Bruce, take special care to make sure each print consistently captures the tonal quality and rich texture of the original.
