And in the wood where often you and I
Upon faint primrose beds were wont to lie . . .
Hand in hand with fairy grace,
Will we sing and bless this place
~ Shakespeare ~
The original was first created as a Scratchboard. Nancy covers a white clay board with black India ink; then with a pointed razorblade she proceeds to meticulously scratch away the black revealing the white beneath as strikingly intricate contrasting lines. Her extensive knowledge of human and animal anatomy and her training in classical art technique combine beautifully to create this sensual scene from ?Mid-Summer?s Night Dream.?
The final Giclee was printed in Nancy's own studio with the rich texture of time tested archival inks that will last for generations. The image is then printed with long-lasting archival inks on either archival 100% cotton rag or archival water resistant canvas. Nancy, and her husband Bruce, take special care to make sure each print consistently captures the tonal quality and rich texture of the original.
